The "Fastest Processor on the Planet", the Intel Core i7 processor, officially landed on Malaysian soil yesterday (20Nov08). Broadly heralded by the computing industry as a technical marvel, the Intel Core i7 processor holds the new world record of 117 for the SPECint_base_rate2006 benchmark test that measures the performance of a processor. This is the first time ever for any single processor to exceed a score of 100 points.
Available in two "flavors" - the Intel Core i7 and the Intel Core i7 Extreme - these quad core, eight thread processors promise up to 40% increase in performance for various heavy duty computing tasks such as video editing (apply changes/effects and review them on the fly without the need for rendering), and gaming (play Crysis on a three monitor setup at highest quality without lagging) as compared to previous quad core processors (Intel Core 2 Extreme).
